As parents we have certain responsibilities to protect our children from hurt and disappointment. Unfortunately, on Saturday we couldn't protect Tate from the hurt and disappointment of losing in the Championship Football Game against Alta. After getting revenge on Riverton the week before and beating them 39-6, we lost to Alta 7-0 in the Championship game. It was a hard fought defensive battle. They broke one play in the 1st quarter and that was the difference in the game. Tate had an AWESOME game!!! He had Alta lead blockers coming at him all day at the defensive end position, and was able to shake them and make MANY tackles. He sacked the quarterback several times for substantial losses. We walked away from the field that day feeling a little bit better about the loss, knowing that Tate had played so well!!
But let's be honest and real, it sucks to lose!!
It sucks to watch your son have to deal with such disappointment. Losing on Saturday was a life experience that we would never be able to duplicate. Tate is a strong kid, and has very strong will. He had to dig down deep in that game. You could sense the boys defeat at halftime they were all down and out, and we were only down 7 points. But Tate came out in the second half and dug down and played an AWESOME second half.
When the game ended you could see him trying to contain his emotions and be brave. As their coaches each addressed the boys you could watch Tate's expression change. His defensive coach got down on his knees and talked to the boys and told them they were still champions and made them yell back at him that they were. Tate lost it, they broke the huddle for the last time as a team and he walked over to me and melted in my arms, he had been strong for as long as he could.
Ty and I are probably on the extreme end of the parent/fan group, we run up and down the sidelines and could probably vomit before every game. We love football and we love it even more when it is Tate playing. We were also sad and disappointed because we couldn't get that Championship for him and make it all better. As a parent it is hard to watch your boy deal with disappointment, you want to take the hurt away. Tate is a Champion, Tate showed us how strong he can be, even when it hurts so bad.
Tate had an AWESOME year in football. Tate has had awesome coaches who cared about the boys and not just winning and football. It has been fun to be involved with all the friends and families on our team. We have lived and breathed football for three straight months, we will be lost without it. Although, if you asked Tate he could probably do without the practices 3 days a week!!!
Tate we are so proud of you!!! We love you so much and can't wait to watch 67 battle again next year!!!
